Chasing new business in a more lucrative market is great. It energizes everybody when they see fast results. But why would you not serve the needs of your original customers just because they are not so profitable today? Tomorrow, the legislation changes and you find the old market is the new, profitable one and you have to start again with building (and repairing) important relationships.
Relationships that took a whole generation to build.
Look after your customers and they will look after you.
What is that?? Electrosurgery is the modern day scalpel, it cuts and stops the bleeding in one go. If you’ve had treatment from a dentist, dermatologist, gynaecologist, podiatrist then it’s probably been used on you. There’s one in almost every operating theatre and dental surgery.
I searched online and on LinkedIn for a forum for electrosurgery, and I couldn’t find one. So, I decided that since this technology is about as ubiquitous as a scalpel blade then it was about time that a forum existed. It’s open to all manufacturers, all types of doctors and dentists. I’ve gone through my contacts going back 20 years and invited them to participate.
If you’re a doctor/dentist/vet then click here http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=3170979&trk=hb_side_g and join in the discussions and see if you can teach someone a new neat trick.
Look forward to meeting you
Everyday I floss my teeth. Well, ok, maybe 29 days out of 30 I floss my teeth. I know that if I do this, I improve immeasurably the chances of keeping my teeth looking good and being healthy for the rest of my life. I’ve worked in a dental surgery; I’ve seen what happens if you don’t floss. It’s discipline and it’s knowledge that gets me to do it even when I don’t want to.
It’s discipline that keeps me reading when I’d rather watch TV, it’s discipline that makes me put on my running shoes. It’s discipline that makes me turn on my pc and move one step further towards my goal. Even the if the forward movement is tiny, it’s still forward. If you don’t have the discipline to keep doing the right thing day in and day out, then the results will speak for themselves. One of the saddest stories I have is of a very pretty woman aged about 62. She had looked after her figure, she’d had a bit of cosmetic surgery done and she looked great. She’d just married a younger man and she didn’t want to put her dentures in a glass at the side of the bed at night. Unfortunately, she’d never flossed, she’d smoked, she’d lost her teeth and there were no alternatives for her. She looked at me and asked me how come I had such lovely teeth. I smiled and I didn’t say: I’ve flossed my teeth almost every day for the last 25 years. It’s the little things that you do every day that pay off. Discipline pays off.
Up until 3 weeks ago if someone had asked me what I did, my response was that I organised post-graduate education for medical and dental professionals. I considered myself an “insider” because I was a dental care professional by background and training. In my mind, my industry was “healthcare professional” who organised courses. FATAL ERROR. Using this assumption has cost me huge amounts of time/money and quite a few tears of frustration as I couldn’t find the answers I needed.
I am an EVENT ORGANISER with a background in dentistry.
Using this new title has removed blockages that seemed inconquerable. It enabled me to find the solutions that I needed and the people that I needed. My website http://www.mededeurope.com will be changed and soon it will do exactly what I needed it to do at a fraction of the cost of the original site. I’ll have a compact website which will link up to an online registration service. Just like the real event organisers. I’ve learned a lot over the last few weeks and I want to thank those who have helped me:
Mike Druttman http://www.contentoptimizationexpert.com/01/stepping-stones-to-a-complete-web-site/this article was prompted in part by my experience and is full of excellent advice.
Ronald Smith http://www.bibnt.com/2010/05/19/marketing-communications-services-ronald-smith/
Patricia Pardy http://ca.linkedin.com/in/patriciapardy. Event organiser extraordinaire!
Well, my website http://www.mededeurope.com will tell you that MedEdEurope is my brainchild and I am Karen Bridgwater. I don’t want to sound too arrogant but about 4 years ago I realised that I was perhaps the ONLY person in the UK and France with my skills and experience, after all, how many people do you know who are fluent in French and English; have worked at the highest level of dentistry in the UK as well as France; have also worked in high end medical/dental equipment sales and training and has an excellent knowledge of both the UK and French health systems?
Then I looked around me and I saw many, many people with wonderful unique skill sets. The really cool people were using their unique skill sets to do things they loved doing, so what do I love doing? I love teaching, I love passing on information that will make a difference to how you perceive something or someone, I love that moment when you see your “student” get what you’re saying.
I’m in the business of improving peoples’ lives through education.
What are your unique skill sets? Are you doing what you love doing?
